YRT offers veterans free rides on Remembrance Day
York Region Transit (YRT) will offer free transit and On-Request service to veterans and immediate family of deceased veterans on Remembrance Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
Veterans must identify themselves to YRT and On-Request operators by showing a uniform, medal, beret or blazer. Immediate family of deceased veterans must present an item that identifies their relationship to the veteran, such as an identification card or service papers.
Safety permitting, all YRT services will pull over to the curb at 11 a.m. that day for two minutes of silence to honour the sacrifices made by veterans for all Canadians. York Region is hosting a Remembrance Day Service at the York Region Administrative Centre, 17250 Yonge St., Newmarket, on November 11, starting at 10:25 a.m.
Meanwhile, if you lost an item while travelling on YRT, you can now report the missing item using the new online form or calling YRT. You’re asked to provide as much detail as possible, including the date and time you lost the item, where you lost the item and the direction in which you were travelling. Learn more at yrt.ca/LostAndFound.
YRT On-Request provides riders with a flexible, ride-sharing option to meet travel needs across the Region. Book your trip using the YRT On-Request app, available in the App Store and Google Play.
