Markham Cricket Association raises $1,000 for MSH

The Markham Cricket Association (MCA) raised $1,000 for the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation (MSHF) through its first-ever charity cricket tournament: Cricket for Cure.

MCA president Raka Paul presented a $1,000 cheque to Matteo Paolucci from MSHF at the tournament final held at Kirkham Ground on September 4. There, the Wellness Warriors defeated the Cure Blasters, becoming the first champions of the tournament.

The tournament consisted of four games beginning on July 3. Three teams – Wellness Warriors, Cure Blasters, and Healing Strikers – fought against each other once before the top two teams faced off in the final.

Paul expressed gratitude to the City of Markham for providing excellent cricket facilities, as well as the players, MCA management, and umpires who contributed their time and money towards the initiative.

“Our members are determined to raise and donate more funds in the coming years, while continuing to spread awareness about the importance of supporting our local hospital,” he said.

Founded in 1979, the MCA now manages tournaments for more than 400 members in Markham.
