Macedonian Multicultural Festival returns to Markham
Experience Macedonian culture, community, and cuisine at the 28th annual Macedonian Multicultural Festival, taking place Aug. 7 to 9 at St. Dimitrija Solunski Macedonian Orthodox Church.
The three-day celebration will feature authentic Macedonian cuisine prepared by dedicated volunteers using recipes passed down through generations. Festival favourites include grilled kebapi, roasted lamb, shopska salad, sarma, burek, tavče gravče, and other dishes.
On Aug. 7, the festival will recognize emergency service personnel from the Markham area with a special appreciation lunch, as a small token of gratitude for their dedication and service to our community.
Visitors can also enjoy live entertainment, cultural performances, traditional folk dancing, family-friendly activities, and a marketplace featuring traditional foods, cultural artwork, handmade crafts, jewellery, clothing, books, and specialty products that reflect Macedonian heritage and Balkan culture.
“This event has a meaningful impact because it brings people together in a positive way and strengthens connections within the wider community,” says Žan Stojčeski, president of St. Dimitrija Solunski Macedonian Orthodox Church. “What makes it stand out is the sense of unity and hospitality you feel throughout the experience. It is not just an event people attend, but something they share in together, where everyone is welcome and included.”
Proceeds from the festival will support Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation, helping healthcare services and programs within the community.
