Christmas parade brings holiday cheer

Main Street Unionville will become a festive runway on December 14, as over 40 dazzling floats bring holiday cheer to the Olde Tyme Christmas Candlelight Parade.

This year’s lineup will include floats from community groups like the Indigenous Action Committee, Markham Fire Service, El Shamaly Shire Club, 351 Silver Star Royal Air Cadets, School of Rock, and York Pride. Local marching bands will fill the air with festive music, enhancing the holiday atmosphere.

Following the parade, the celebration will continue with special events. At the bandstand, a lighting ceremony will officially begin the holiday season, featuring the Town Crier and local dignitaries. Guests can also look forward to a visit from Santa Claus, a captivating fire show, carollers, and free skating at the Crosby Community Centre.

Sonia Chow, executive director of the Unionville BIA, shared her excitement for this annual tradition: “This year’s celebration promises a blend of tradition, community spirit, and holiday cheer as we anticipate an even brighter future for Main Street.”

The Olde Tyme Christmas Candlelight Parade begins at 6:30 p.m., starting at Carlton and Main Street Unionville.
