‘Trusted advisor’ appointed commissioner of development services
A “valued member” of the City of Markham’s executive leadership team has been appointed commissioner of development services.
In the role, Trinela Cane will continue to provide strategic leadership and oversight for the City’s development-related functions, including planning and urban design, engineering, transportation, development review and building standards.
Her focus will include advancing Markham Council’s strategic priorities by supporting responsible growth and complete communities, ensuring accountability for results and strengthening engagement with Council, the development industry, residents and other stakeholders.
“Not only has she demonstrated exceptional leadership and a strong commitment to public service, I’m confident with her experience, collaborative approach and strategic focus, that she will continue to champion responsible growth and positive outcomes for our Markham community,” Mayor Frank Scarpitti says.
Cane joined the City in June 2012 as commissioner of corporate services. Over the past 14 years, she has provided executive leadership across key corporate functions and supported Markham Council and the Executive Leadership Team on complex organizational, governance and service delivery matters, the City reports.
For the past 10 months, Cane served as interim commissioner of development services and commissioner of corporate services. She will continue in that dual role until May 1, while plans for her replacement of commissioner of corporate services are finalized.
“I’m pleased to congratulate Trinela Cane on this appointment and extend my deep appreciation for her leadership over the past 10 months in a dual role, successfully guiding two major portfolios with clarity, collaboration and a strong focus on results,” says Chief Administrative Officer Andy Taylor. “A valued member of the City’s executive leadership team and a trusted advisor, her extensive executive experience in public sector policy, service delivery and business transformation will be instrumental in this role.”
Before joining the City, Cane held executive roles in the provincial government, including assistant deputy minister, chief information officer and chief administrative officer.
