TNT Foundation marks 20 years of giving back with annual charity hockey tournament

The TNT Foundation (TNT) will celebrate its 20th annual charity hockey tournament on Dec. 6, bringing together players and fans for a day of fun, competition, and community support.

TNT is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children access and participate in sports. Proceeds from this year’s tournament will go toward Canadian Tire Jumpstart, a national charity that provides financial assistance and access to sports for children from low-income families.

This year’s event will feature two divisions: the 50+ division will play at Centennial Community Centre, and the 50- division will hit the ice at Mount Joy Arena. The tournament is free for spectators, inviting the community to come out and cheer on the players. Each team will play three games, and the team with the most wins will top the standings. In the event of a tie, goal differential will determine the winner.

“The December hockey tournament brings together eight teams for three games each, creating more than just a weekend of hockey. Participants and supporters leave with a sense of pride in knowing they’ve contributed to something bigger than the sport itself, said TNT President Brandon McCron. “They take away the experience of teamwork, community spirit, and the satisfaction of helping provide opportunities for kids who might not otherwise be able to play organized sports. The event reminds everyone that hockey can be a powerful way to bring people together for a greater purpose.”

The Hockey Tournament starts at 9 a.m., with participants that have been supporting the foundation for 20 years. Players include ex-pro hockey players, TNT members of the board, community, and Canadian Tire employees.

McCron emphasized the broader value of sport for children: “Sports build confidence, encourage healthy habits, and teach essential skills like teamwork, resilience, and discipline. Beyond the rink, these experiences improved children’s physical and mental well-being, and help them grow into stronger, more engaged members of their communities”
