TD Tree Days spouting in Markham
TD Tree Days are in full swing this October. This annual event plants trees and shrubs across Canada and the US to bring communities together and spend time outdoors, creating more green space in our communities.
TD planted a total of 600 trees in Markham and Stouffville combined over the past weekend, Oct 16/18, through a joint effort by volunteers, Friends of the Rouge River Watershed, and TD Tree Day.
The support is not yet done in Markham, as TD will be back out to plant another 600 trees and shrubs in our community on October 23 and 30th at Bob Hunter Memorial Park from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
The benefits of the tree plantings will be noticeable in our local green space. In Markham, the plantings will help create a native mixed woodland that improves water quality, flood control, biodiversity and habitat for over forty endangered species in the Rouge Watershed.
In Stouffville, the tree planting is part of a long-term project to create a habitat corridor, providing more habitat and connectivity for native species.
