New library leader brings two decades of experience to the role

The library’s new CEO, Andrea Cecchetto, was recently appointed for her impressive experience and commitment to the Markham Public Library (MPL).

Cecchetto has more than 22 years of leadership experience with MPL, most recently serving as the Director, Service Excellence. Her strong commitment to service excellence is reflected in MPL’s award-winning Customer Service Revolution, which became recognized within the library sector as a standard of excellence. 

Beyond MPL, Cecchetto has held senior leadership roles on provincial, national, and international library association boards, sharpening her skills in advocacy and financial management. Her deep roots within the City of Markham and the wider library sector have allowed her to build lasting partnerships that are centred on a shared purpose.

The recruitment process for this position was conducted with the full participation of Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Deputy Mayor Michael Chan, and Commissioner of Community Services Morgan Jones, all of whom fully support the Board’s decision.

The position opened as Catherine Biss retires after an extraordinary career in public service with 24 years as MPL’s CEO and 31 years with the City of Markham.
