Markham golfers impress at Notah Begay III Eastern Championship
Three talented junior golfers from Markham showcased their skills at the Notah Begay III Eastern Championship in Mirabel, Quebec, last weekend, proudly representing their community with determination and sportsmanship.
Competing in the Boys 14-15 Division, Oscar Lin and Ajay Para got off to an impressive start despite challenging weather conditions. Heavy pouring rain interrupted play after the first nine holes on the opening day, making it difficult for players to maintain their rhythm and momentum. Nevertheless, Oscar carded an outstanding 2-over-par round, while Ajay followed closely with a solid 3-over-par round, placing both golfers among the tournament’s top contenders.
Although the second day did not unfold in their favour, both players battled through the demanding course to secure Top 20 finishes, demonstrating resilience and the ability to compete against some of the strongest junior golfers in Eastern Canada.
“The opening round gave me confidence, and even though the second day was challenging, every tournament is an opportunity to learn and improve,” said Lin, who has previously represented Markham and Ontario in several provincial-level championships.
“Competing in an event like this motivates me to keep working hard. I’m grateful for the experience and look forward to earning more opportunities to compete at the national level,” added Para.
Also representing Markham, Bruce Wang competed in the Boys 10-11 Division and delivered an excellent performance, finishing tied for sixth place at 13 over par. His impressive result further showcased the depth of young golfing talent emerging from the Markham community.
The performances by Lin, Para and Wang reflect the bright future of junior golf in Markham. The community looks forward to seeing these golfers represent Ontario and eventually Canada at the national level.
