Discover the buzz at Markham Museum
Markham Museum invites you to celebrate International Museum Day 2026 by discovering the buzz on bees, bugs and pollinators, which it describes as the “tiny heroes that make our ecosystems thrive.”
The museum welcomes new partner Alvéole for a hands-on workshop entitled, What’s the Buzz! A dedicated beekeeper will showcase beekeeping tools, answer your questions and share the story behind the museum’s honeybee initiative.
Participants can build their own wild bee homes and create a safe space for native pollinators right in their own backyards thanks to support from the Greening Action Partnership Fund.
The event takes place on May 16 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 9350 Markham Rd. Activities also include a GeoTour: Markham Museum on the Move, mini putt, Transportation Hall Activity Centre, Everyday Superheroes Exhibition, Markham Community Makers and A Picture of Markham: The Art of Pat Wheeler. Registration will open soon.
The International Council of Museums has organized International Museum Day every year since 1977. The goal of the Day is to raise awareness about the fact that “museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples,” it says. Last year, more than 37,000 museums in about 158 countries and territories participated in the event.
