City of Markham promotes Waste Reduction Week

The City of Markham joins municipalities from coast to coast to celebrate and educate on waste reduction, waste diversion, and how to support a circular economy.

Since 2001, the Waste Reduction Week in Canada campaign has engaged Canadians to better understand waste issues and find opportunities to reduce their environmental impact.

This week, Markham encourages residents to drop off waste that can otherwise be hard to dispose of, including construction waste, textiles, e-waste, plastics, and food waste.

The city is also encouraging people to rent and reuse items they may only use a couple of times a year. The Markham Public Library lends out more than just books, and residents can borrow items ranging from power tools to sporting equipment.
