Major storm crashes through GTA

Major flooding in Markham and across York Region on September 2 caused drastic commuter delays and damage throughout the region.

Traffic was a nightmare throughout the late afternoon into the evening. From golf ball-sized hail slicing its way across the 401 to closures on the Don Valley Parkway, leaving the Toronto area was no easy feat.

The more expensive but historically quicker alternative, the 407, proved no help as it experienced major flooding across all eastbound lanes, causing standstill traffic throughout Vaughan.

Some areas in the GTA received 100 mm of rain, with Markham seeing 50 mm in one day.

The worst of the storm is behind us, and fortunately, sunny days are in the forecast for the Labour Day weekend.
