Rapid Transit Corporation appoints interim leader
A “highly respected and proven leader” will take over the helm of the York Region Rapid Transit Corporation (YRRTC), with the Board of Directors appointing Michael Rabeau as Interim President and CEO, effective September 14.
Rabeau brings more than 20 years of progressive leadership experience in infrastructure planning and capital delivery at York Region. In his interim role, he will lead YRRTC in advancing the Region’s rapid transit priorities and overseeing the continued delivery of key transportation projects.
“Michael is a highly respected and proven leader who is exceptionally well positioned to step into this role and guide the Corporation through the next phase of its work,” says YRRTC Chair and Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “As we continue to advance critical rapid transit investments, strong leadership remains essential to delivering the infrastructure our communities need to support growth, expand housing opportunities and enhance connections between residents, businesses and employment areas.”
Rabeau worked closely on the planning and delivery of rapid transit infrastructure throughout York Region. “I look forward to working with the Board of Directors, staff and project partners to advance priority initiatives, including the Hwy. 7 East and Jane Street Bus Rapid Transit projects, as well as supporting the delivery of the Yonge North Subway Extension in partnership with Metrolinx,” he says.
Rabeau’s extensive experience, deep understanding of regional infrastructure delivery and commitment to public service will help ensure continuity, strong governance and continued momentum on these transformative transit projects, York Region Chairman and CEO Eric Jolliffe notes. “Delivering these investments remains critical to achieving federal, provincial and municipal objectives and supporting the long-term needs of our growing communities.”
Outgoing President and CEO Paul Jankowski played a key role in refining YRRTC’s strategic focus, strengthening governance practices, and enhancing relationships with external partners and stakeholders during his tenure, York Region reports. He will continue to support the Board and organization throughout the transition period leading up to Rabeau’s appointment.
