De Grasse appointed to Order of Canada
Sprinter Andre De Grasse, the country’s most decorated male Olympian, has been named a Member of the Order of Canada, an honour that recognizes outstanding achievements by Canadians.
The seven-time Olympic medallist made history at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games as the first Canadian to medal in all three sprint events. He repeated the feat at Tokyo 2020 and added a seventh medal in Paris 2024.
De Grasse is also being recognized beyond the track as a philanthropist and author who empowers youth to fulfill their potential. He’s among 80 appointments to the Order of Canada, a list that includes journalists, Indigenous leaders and doctors.
The honour will be conferred at an investiture ceremony to be held at Ottawa’s Rideau Hall, residence of Gov. Gen. Mary Simon, sometime in the new year.
“The Order of Canada fosters a sense of pride and cohesion in our country,” Simon said in a statement. “Every appointment celebrates not only the talent, expertise and dedication of individuals, but also the countless lives they have touched through their work, vision and contributions.”
