YRICA brings community together for festive Diwali celebration in Markham
The York Region Indian Canadian Association (YRICA) hosted a lively Diwali celebration on October 26 at Angus Glen Community Centre, filling the space with vibrant music, dance, games, food, and cultural performances. The event welcomed families and community members of all ages, with programs led by children, youth, and adults alike.
For YRICA, the evening was about more than celebrating the festival of lights. It was an opportunity to strengthen community ties, show appreciation, and honour shared values.
The celebration emphasized the Diwali message that light triumphs over darkness and highlighted themes of faith, hope, and unity. Special guests included Regional Councillor Joe Li and business leader Arjun Jasuja, who joined attendees in marking the joyous occasion.
“YRICA is a dynamic organization dedicated to serving the vibrant Indian community in the York region area,” said committee member Renu Srivastava. “Our group consists of professionals from diverse fields united by a common goal to enrich our community through cultural exchange, professional development and community service.”
The evening offered a welcoming space for friends, neighbours, and families to connect while embracing the cultural traditions of Diwali.
