Toy and food donations needed as Christmas approaches

COVID-19 has resulted in greater need in our community this year. With the holidays quickly approaching, the City of Markham is holding two donation drives to help ease hunger and to bring some seasonal joy to children.

Markham Fire and Emergency Services is collecting new, unwrapped toys for the Salvation Army and Markham-Stouffville Hospital’s Children’s Centre. Toy donations will be accepting until December 21st.

For those that prefer to donate food to those in need, the By-law Enforcement and Regulatory Services department is collecting non-perishable, unexpired food and personal care items for the Markham Food Bank. Food donations will be accepted until January 10th. Items most needed include: canned vegetables, canned meat/fish, rice, cereal, baby food, toiletries, feminine hygiene products, pet food, towels and blankets for pets,

Donations can be safely dropped off at any Markham Fire Station. Find the closest station to you at markham.ca/HolidayDrive. Donations can also be dropped off to Angus Glen Community Centre, Aaniin Community Centre, Pan Am Community Centre and the Thornhill Community Centre.
