Premier Ford celebrates Lunar New Year in Markham

Lunar New Year is always a big occasion in Markham, with a host of events to herald the New Year, from the formal and planned to the casual. This year was no different, with Premier Doug Ford showing up at First Markham Place to offer good wishes and red packets to passers-by. Supported by a host of MPPs, including Markham-Unionville MPP Billy Pang, Markham-Thornhill MPP Logan Kanapathi and Richmond Hill MPP Daisy Wai, Ford surprised happy local merchants and shoppers with the most casual of mall walks, doing a tour of almost the entire indoor portion of the shopping complex.

Ford has been a regular visitor to the area over the years and was clearly in his element doing informal walkabouts of this kind, celebrating the Year of the Horse, said to represent hard work, bravery and resilience.
