Six Markham-based companies are among the year’s Best Workplaces in Ontario, an annual list published by Great Place to Work®.
Astellas Pharma Canada, Inc. is a Canadian affiliate of Tokyo-based Astellas Pharma Inc., a pharmaceutical company that conducts business in more than 70 countries around the globe. Through the company’s paid volunteerism initiative, its employees can take six days off a year to use as they wish and support a cause close to their hearts. Astellas also provides surprise days off to extend long weekends.
Genesys provides customer experience as a service, using cloud, digital and artificial intelligence technologies to help businesses deepen customer connections. As part of its commitment to work-life balance, it offers an ‘open time off’’ policy that allows employees to request and take the vacation or sick time they need without worrying about how many days they have available.
Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. also made the list. Since entering the Canadian market in 1983, it has grown into one of the best-selling and award-winning foreign manufacturers in the country. Though its vehicle programs, every employee is eligible to lease up to two vehicles at a reduced rate – a perk that includes the cost of insurance and maintenance. Each office has a Wall of Gratitude where team members can leave a thank-you note to team members. The company maintained that initiative while employees worked virtually through a Kudoboard.

PACE Technical Services Inc. offers CompleteCare IT solutions that focus on enhanced cybersecurity, insights and strategy. Rounding out the list of Markham-based winners is Techtronic Industries Canada Inc., a global leader in power tools, accessories, hand tools, outdoor power equipment and more for do-it-yourselfers, and professional and industrial users in the home improvement, repair, maintenance, construction and infrastructure industries. Its brands include Milwaukee, Ryobi and Hoover.
To be eligible for the Best Workplaces in Ontario list, organizations must be Great Place to Work Certified™ in the past year, be headquartered in Ontario and have at least 15 employees working in the province. Great Place to Work® determined the best workplaces based the overall Trust Index score from organizations’ Ontario-based employees.
