Markham at the Movies returns to Flato Markham Theatre on September 20 with the award-winning film Peace by Chocolate.
“We are happy to screen this heartwarming new Canadian story to open our eleventh season of bringing TIFF films to Markham”, chair Diane Hallquist says.
“Themes of newcomer struggle and adaptation are integral to the Canadian story, and when people and dreams come together over chocolate – that really appeals to our committee, and we think to our audience.”
Peace by Chocolate is the interesting story of the Syrian refugee family who brought a newsworthy chocolaterie and vision of life in Canada, and of the Nova Scotia town that made them welcome.
The mission of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is to “transform the way people see the world, through film.”
Its outreach program Film Circuit offers 150+ communities across Canada the opportunity to see world-class cinema featuring both Canadian and international films shown at the September Festival.
The Markham at the Movies community experience features a warm welcome to a thought-provoking TIFF movie at the Markham Theatre; film-themed guest artists and speakers; engaging activities, and on Sept. 20 – chocolate.
Films start at 7 p.m., but patrons are asked to arrive at 6:30. Tickets are $12 at the door or call the box office at 905-305-7469.
