Golf ‘fore’ Union Villa long-term care home

The 9th Annual Unionville Charity Golf Classic in support of Union Villa long-term care home takes place Tuesday, July 8 at Angus Glen Golf Club.

The event kicks off at 6:30 a.m. with registration, a continental breakfast and driving range, followed by an 8 a.m. start. Lunch and award presentations begin at 1:30 p.m.

Since 2015, the tournament has raised more than $500,000 to help Union Villa residents age well and live better. Funds raised from this year’s event will contribute to enhancing and advancing DementiAbility, a dementia-friendly care model, throughout the home.

The Unionville Home Society opened Union Villa, a 160-bed, long-term care home in 1970. It receives basic funding from the Ministry of Long-Term Care to provide nursing care, food, programs and accommodation but “that funding just doesn’t go far enough or provide for other amenities that make the Villa a comfortable ‘home’ for residents,” it reports.

Unionville Home Society Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to a single mission: to fund long-term care amenities and resident initiatives that enhance the lives of those living at Union Villa. Since 1991, fundraising efforts have rebuilt Union Villa, supported dementia-friendly initiatives; replaced resident beds, mattresses, dining room tables and chairs; enhanced communal resident living spaces; upgraded resident rooms; funded music, art and clown therapy programs; purchased restorative and diagnostic equipment so residents can age in place; and more.

“These investments in resident care and comfort have been made possible because of our generous and thoughtful donors,” Unionville Home Society says.
