The We are Family Charity Roadshow 2023 was held on Feb. 19 at the Splendid China Mall to raise awareness of autism and disabilities.
The event included more than 40 performances and 30 charity performers. The performances included singing, dancing, pipa, Guzheng and Kung Fu Fan playing.
The event was organized by Markham Regional Councillor Alan Ho, Markham Ward 2 Councillor Ritch Lau, President of Buttonville Residents Association (BRA) Alice Cheung and President of Active Community Engagement (ACE) Robin Choy. Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti was the Honorary Chair.
The event raised $24,000 which will go towards supporting people with autism and disabilities and their families. The donations went to DD Community Connector and the Chinese Autism Awareness Centre (CAAC). The $24,000 was donated by over 20 sponsors and charity performers.
The press conference was held on the morning of the event and was well attended by many supporters as well as representatives of the beneficiaries, Helen Guan, President of CAAC and Edward Lau, President of DD Community Connector.
