The Popular Music Club in Markham was filled with the sounds of hope and generosity as it hosted the Dragons Singing with Love Charity Concert.
This remarkable event, was organized by the Canada Fortuna Wishing Well Foundation, James Lee Chi Ping, and Markham Regional Councillor Alan Ho, and was title sponsored by Alice P. Cheung. Its primary goal was to raise crucial funds for the Markham Food Bank.
The concert showcased the talents of over 30 esteemed local singers, including James Lee, Roger Feng, Xuemei Xiang, Molly Chen, Angela Zheng, and Rose Zhang. Their performances, brimming with music and heartfelt emotion, achieved a remarkable fundraising total of $25,000, exceeding the initial goal.
Ho expressed heartfelt thanks to all attendees for their generosity and support, saying “Your contributions and involvement make a significant difference in our community.”
John Frotten from the Markham Food Bank shared that the organization, founded in 1984, operates entirely on volunteer support and does not receive funding from provincial or federal governments. He expressed deep gratitude for the concert and the generous donations, pointing out that in August alone, 2,750 individuals required their assistance.
The Markham Fire Department, a long-time supporter of the food bank, was also present at the event. They highlighted their ongoing commitment, noting that food donation boxes are available at fire stations to support the food bank’s efforts. Foodymart contributed to the cause by setting up donation bins at its store entrance over the concert weekend. The Markham Fire Department and emergency services were instrumental in transporting these donations directly to the food bank.
This charity event highlighted the strong community spirit and commitment to supporting those in need.
