Cathay Ball supports Mon Sheong LTC centres
The Mon Sheong Foundation will host its 33rd annual black-tie Cathay Ball on November 1 at the Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference Centre and Spa. Proceeds from this year’s gala will support Because We Care, a capital campaign funding the construction of the new Mon Sheong long-term care centre at 30 Apple Creek Boulevard in Markham and another in Richmond Hill.
The new facilities are designed with a resident-centred approach, featuring enhanced infection prevention and control measures, private washrooms, individualized heating and cooling in rooms and common areas, real-time positioning systems, and even robot companions to help residents stay engaged and active.
This year’s gala theme, “1,001 Nights: Timeless Tales, Boundless Care,” celebrates stories of compassion and commitment to seniors. This summer, Mon Sheong celebrated the milestone of providing 1001 LTC beds across all of its facilities.
Founded in 1964, Mon Sheong is a charitable organization dedicated to promoting Chinese culture and heritage while caring for seniors and supporting youth. Its services range from Chinese language schools and youth programs to long-term care homes for older adults.
Guests will be welcomed with a 6 p.m. reception featuring hors d’oeuvres, drinks, networking, and a silent auction with about 200 items, including jewellery, electronics, artwork, fashion, restaurant vouchers, and more.
A four-course dinner follows at 7 p.m., along with speeches highlighting Mon Sheong’s achievements in long-term care, plus a lineup of entertainment featuring the Michael Vieira Band.
Event co-chairs David Cheng and Jeffery Mah emphasized the importance of the fundraiser: “The gala is one of the most notable fundraising galas in the Chinese community. It stands out as a premier gala not just for its elegance, but for the meaningful impact it delivers to the community.”
