Big upgrades coming for Markham’s Wismer Park

Markham jumps in, with additional amenities planned for Wismer Park thanks to Jumpstart funding.

Earlier this year, the city council endorsed the Facility Fit Plan at an estimated cost of $2 million. The Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities are also supporting the endeavour with an additional $1-1.5 million.

“They have been doing great work in collaboration with municipalities providing additional recreational services,” said Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to get some additional outdoor amenities in our community.”

The investment will provide the community with new public athletic facilities, including a mini soccer turf field, improved basketball courts, pickleball/tennis courts, and a synthetic ice rink.

The soccer turf and multi-purpose sports courts are expected to be completed this year. The synthetic ice rink is planned to be completed by summer 2027.
