The Markham-Unionville Terry Fox Run returns on Sunday, September 20, with organizers hoping to raise more than $100,000 for cancer research this year.
Last year, the local run raised $99,800, bringing the total amount raised to more than $1.7 million.
“This year, we are aiming to be over $100,000,” said local race director Lilly Ing. “Help us reach this goal.”
The Terry Fox Foundation has raised more than $1 billion for cancer research since Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope in 1980, helping fund more than 1,300 research projects and advances in cancer detection, diagnosis and treatment across Canada.
This year’s Terry Fox Run also celebrates the legacy of Terry’s Marathon of Hope with a commemorative T-shirt inspired by the communities he ran through during his cross-country journey.
The Markham-Unionville run begins at the Old Unionville Library Community Centre (15 Library Lane). Registration opens at 8:30 a.m., with the run starting at 9:30 a.m.
There is no registration fee, and participants are welcome to walk, run, wheel, blade or skate. All proceeds support cancer research in Canada.
