Local musician launches “Not Weak Minded”

Markham musician Jonathan Panetta has released his latest album, “Not Weak Minded,” a deeply personal collection of songs built around the message that struggle is not a sign of weakness.

Featuring nine tracks that blend grunge, punk and acoustic rock, the album offers an honest and unfiltered look at mental health, self-identity and resilience.

The title track, “Not Weak Minded,” is an intense and advocating anthem that challenges the idea of people being labelled in moments of poor mental health and vulnerability. Driven by heavy guitars and raw vocals, Panetta pushes back against those narratives.

Panetta’s songwriting is shaped by both personal experience and his work as a Child and Youth Worker following his graduation from Centennial College in 2021. Through his music, he aims to inspire positive change and spark meaningful conversations around mental health.

His musical journey was also influenced by his years in the music program at St. Brother André Catholic High School. One lyric in the song “Yesteryear” references the phrase “strong and wrong,” a memorable quote from his former music teacher, Mr. Jannetta, that has stayed with him over the years.

Panetta’s newest album embraces imperfection, challenges mental health stigma, and reminds listeners that being tested proves that you’re still fighting.

Fans of that genre can catch Panetta performing locally at a variety of open mic events, including The Duchess on Main Street Markham on Thursday evenings, Harmony Hall in Stouffville on Sunday afternoons, and in Richmond Hill on Tuesday evenings at Fionn MacCool’s and Sunday evenings at King Henry’s Arms.

“Not Weak Minded is now available on all major streaming platforms.
