YRP conduct proactive patrol to inform shop owners about counterfeit goods

York Regional Police conducted proactive patrol aimed at shops suspected of selling counterfeit goods through outreach and education.

On June 11, members of York Regional Police visited shops in the area of Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue East in the City of Markham to raise awareness among shop owners about the legal consequences associated with selling counterfeit goods.

Officers conducted foot patrols, spoke with vendors and distributed information cards in three languages. The initiative focused on education and prevention, including consequences of selling counterfeit trademark goods.

York Regional Police reminds vendors that police and municipal partners may conduct visible patrols and store visits in areas where counterfeit goods are suspected.

Vendors are reminded of the importance of knowing their suppliers and maintaining records to support the authenticity of the products they sell. If you sell branded goods, you must be able to show where the items came from and keep supporting documents such as invoices, receipts and shipping records.
