York Police looking for ‘holiday heroes’

You can be a ‘holiday hero’ this year simply by dropping off new, unwrapped toys, children’s clothing, gift cards and/or monetary donations at any York Regional Police (YRP) facility.

Through its 26th Annual Holiday Heroes Campaign, which runs from November 14 through December 16, YRP will distribute donations to the thousands of people who’ve registered for assistance through local Salvation Army programs and Victim Services of York Region.

Donations can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at all YRP facilities, including #5 District Headquarters at 8700 McCowan Rd. in Markham or at YRP Headquarters at 47 Don Hillock Dr. in Aurora.

YRP will also be accepting donations at several events at various locations throughout the campaign. Visit https://www.yrp.ca/en/community/Events-Schedule.asp to learn more. Financial donations can be made at www.yrp.ca/hhdonate.

“Financial donations are used to buy groceries and other items that are desperately needed but are not commonly donated during the drive, such as winter clothing, diapers and formula,” says Const. Amy Boudreau. “The best part about the campaign is that 100 per cent of donations go directly back to those in need here in York Region.”

“As always, all donations raised in York Region stay in York Region. A special thanks to members of our community, as these goals could never have been achieved without the generosity and support from the public,” Boudreau says.
