Unionville GO parking reduced as construction begins for 2026 Ontario Honda Dealers Indy

By David Yin, Local Journalism Initiative reporter

Metrolinx, which operates GO Transit, has temporarily closed about 300 parking spaces at Unionville GO Station until December as construction begins on infrastructure for the upcoming Ontario Honda Dealers Indy race track, set to open in 2026.

The closed parking spaces are at the south end of the station’s parking lot. Additionally, the east overflow parking lot is closed to the public.

Approximately 180 parking spaces are available in an overflow parking lot at Pan Am Centre, which is about a 5-minute walk from the train platform. The lot will remain open until construction is complete. Fourteen spaces in the overflow lot are accessible spaces.

Vehicles can enter the overflow lot through Main Street Unionville, next to the Pan Am Centre. They can exit the lot through the south access road onto YMCA Boulevard.

Metrolinx said that it is working with other venues to provide more parking spaces during construction.

“We’re happy to support the City of Markham as it gears up for the world-class Ontario Honda Dealers Indy in 2026,” the company said.

Metrolinx advises people to enter and exit Unionville Go through the main access on YMCA Boulevard. It also advises people to plan ahead, arrive early, and follow all directional signs near construction areas.

The City of Markham announced last month that it will host the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy starting in 2026. The city estimates that its first event, scheduled for August 14-16, will attract 150,000 attendees and generate $50 million in economic activity.

Ontario Honda Dealers Indy is an annual motorsports festival led by Green Savoree Toronto ULC. It features racers from around the world competing at speeds of over 370 km/h.
