Celebrating 10 years of community and compassion
On September 12. the 10th annual Golf Carte Blanche Tournament united the community once again, marking a decade of celebration. This year, for the second time, the event proudly supported the Gale and Graham Wright Breast Health Centre (BHC) at Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH).
The BHC, which opened in May 2022 at MSH, provides patients with a seamless experience, ensuring quick access to care without weeks of waiting. Designed with patient comfort in mind, the centre is a welcoming environment for those in need. Dr Pallister, a passionate advocate for the centre, has made a tremendous impact on the lives of individuals battling breast cancer.
Sara Sterling, the committee chair, is not only a key organizer but also a breast cancer survivor. Her personal journey fuels her commitment to the cause. Along with a dedicated group of women, she orchestrated an event that invited locals to support this important cause. Many participants had either been directly affected by breast cancer or knew someone who had fought the battle.
The day began with a sunlit round of nine holes at the stunning Angus Glen Golf Club, followed by a silent auction, live auction, and a delicious cocktail reception.
Throughout the event, several speakers touched hearts and reminded everyone of the importance of supporting such a critical cause. Dr. Pallister expressed deep gratitude to the attendees and the MSH team, while Mayor Frank Scarpitti honoured the occasion, saying, “It’s the survivors and our loved ones that inspire events like this in the community.” He then presented the committee with a signed certificate from the city, commemorating the 10th annual event.
This year’s tournament, which raised $23,000 for MSH, was a powerful reminder of the strength of community support in providing essential resources. “Our focus is always to support girls and women, and over the years, this event has been a success,” says Sterling. The event echoed a message of care and generosity, encouraging the community to give back and support one another.
