Suspicious meat found in Markham park

Pet owners are urged to be vigilant after an unknown yellow substance was found on meat left in a Markham park.

York Regional Police issued the warning after a concerned pet owner reported finding bacon covered with a substance she worried could be poisonous to animals in Royal Orchard Park at Royal Orchard Boulevard on March 9.

“Officers located the meat and removed it from the park,” says Const. Laura Nicolle. “It has not been confirmed at this stage if there was poison on it, but investigators want to remind pet owners to remain vigilant and ensure that pets don’t eat anything found on the ground.”

Police don’t believe any animals have been injured in connection with their investigation. Anyone who observed any suspicious activity or anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7241. Or, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-tips or leave an anonymous tip at www.1800222tips.com.
