Unusually warm temperatures greeted dignitaries and residents in Markham on November 11 to observe Remembrance Day.
Formal services were held at Flato Markham Theatre and the Unionville Cenotaph at Crosby Memorial Arena on Unionville Main Street giving the community time to reflect on and remember the sacrifice of past present and future members of the armed forces.
A roster of public figures attended at Unionville for the sombre ceremony including Ward 3 Councillor Reid McAlpine, Markham-Unionville MPP Billy Pang, MP Paul Chiang, representatives from fire and police services and a number of veterans.
Following the customary playing of the last post, two minutes of silence and laying of wreaths by local organizations, the public was asked to conclude the event by placing their poppies at the cenotaph.
