Provincial funding fuels MARA’s job growth in Markham
MARA Technologies – with financial support from the provincial government – continues to increase its resilience, build capacity, and re-shore critical supply chains to Ontario.
The Ontario Together Trade Fund (OTTF) provides funding to help businesses affected by U.S. tariffs return production to Ontario, identify new sales opportunities, and expand interprovincial trade.
MARA received over $2 million from the OTTF, which will help provide close to 100 new high-skilled jobs and protect almost 200 existing positions across York Region.
MARA is investing more than $12 million to expand capacity and add capabilities that will enable the company to take on and compete for work currently affected by tariff threats and reduce its dependence on volatile U.S. trade relations.
“This investment marks an exciting new chapter for Mara Technologies,” said Peter Schmied, president of MARA Technologies. “By strengthening our manufacturing capabilities and repatriating key operations to Ontario, we’re not only retaining skilled jobs, we’re creating 95 more, and building a stronger, more resilient supply chain for all Ontarians.
“The funding we got approved by the provincial government is upgrading our equipment and some new equipment to make us more competitive, more efficient, improves our technical capabilities, and will attract more customers.”
The OTTF is dedicated to protecting the province’s workers and businesses from economic uncertainty and building a more competitive, resilient and self-reliant economy.
“Our government is stepping up for the businesses in our community who’ve been directly affected by U.S. tariffs,” said Markham-Thornhill MPP Logan Kanapathi. “MARA Technologies’ investment will help them adapt, stay competitive and continue creating good jobs in these uncertain times.”
Through the OTTF, the government is also providing complementary support and services to help businesses navigate regulatory requirements, connect with skilled talent and access to government programs that accelerate project success.
