Mon Sheong fundraiser exceeds goal

A Mon Sheong fundraiser collected more than $270,000 for Mon Sheong Foundation’s Because We Care Capital Campaign, which supports the development of new long-term care centres in Markham and Richmond Hill.

The Mon Sheong Radiothon 2026 hit the airwaves on March 12 with an 11-hour live broadcast on Sing Tao A1 Chinese Radio. Throughout the broadcast, residents, families, volunteers, staff and representatives from Mon Sheong Foundation shared stories about the care provided by Mon Sheong.

To spread the word for the campaign, program hosts gifted framed calligraphy to each of Mon Sheong’s long-term care centres and performed for residents at the Stouffville Long-Term Care Centre. Mon Sheong Foundation expresses gratitude to all donors, whose collective contributions allowed the Radiothon to exceed its $220,000 target.

Mon Sheong Markham Long-Term Care Centre has entered its final phase of construction. The 11-storey facility is expected to be completed by mid-2026 and will provide 320 beds. Applications will be open once the facility is officially listed with Ontario Health atHome. Construction of the long-term care home in Richmond Hill is slated for completion by late 2027 and will provide 288 care beds. Upon completion of those two new projects, Mon Sheong’s total capacity will reach 1,609 care beds.
