Markham workplaces among best in province

A handful of Markham businesses have been selected by Great Place to Work® Canada as among the 2024 Best Workplaces in Ontario.

Chosen from the pool of Great Place to Work Certified™ organizations with Ontario-based headquarters, companies that qualified for the recognition achieved employee Great Place to Work Trust Index Survey scores that were among the highest in the province.

Hyundai Auto Canada Corp., which markets a full lineup of vehicles from subcompact to sport utility to luxury, was among organizations named to the list, with 91 per cent of its employees saying it’s a great place to work compared to 60 per cent of employees at a typical Canadian organization.

Among other perks, it offers a hybrid work model, free breakfast and lunch on days in the office, and on-site appointments with a registered massage therapist. Managers and up drive the newest Hyundai vehicles, a benefit that includes a gas card, winter tires, and cost of insurance and maintenance. Every employee is eligible to lease up to two vehicles at a reduced lease rate.

Eighty-three per cent of employees at MBI Brands say it’s a great place to work. “Beyond our restaurant walls, we actively support the communities we serve,” it says. The hospitality organization prioritizes diversity, equity and inclusion through regular training. Employee well-being is key, with an employee assistance program, wellness events and flexible work arrangements.

Oppono Lending Company, a private mortgage lender, specializes in innovative and tailored mortgage solutions on residential properties in urban areas. One hundred per cent of its employee say it’s a great place to work. All employees can take their birthday (or a day in lieu of their birthday) off work and receive their favourite birthday cake. Oppono offers a flexible hybrid work culture and covers all employee phone bills and 407 ETR coverage for certain commute-related costs.

Finally, at PACE Technical Inc., an information technology solutions provider, 77 per cent of employees say it’s a great place to work. Its CrewHu platform allows employees to earn points through peer and client recognition that can be redeemed for everything from gift cards to extra time off. All full-time employees are eligible for PACE Performance Incentive Program, which aligns everyone’s success with that of the company.
