Markham woman wins $1 million
Markham woman is $1 million richer after winning a top prize with an Ultra Scratch ticket.
Thavamanidevy, mother of two and grandmother of two, said she loves playing scratch tickets. She was sitting on a bench outside the Petro-Canada on Ninth Line when she discovered her big win.
“I didn’t understand all the zeros at first. I called my husband right away and explained what I was seeing. He said, ‘You must have won big,’” she recalled while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect her cheque. “The walk home was only about 20 minutes, but it felt like two hours, I felt a mix of excitement, shock, and disbelief.”
Once Thavamanidevy got home, she called her son, who came over right away. “My family was thrilled and a bit shocked.”
When asked how it feels to win the lottery, she said, “I’m filled with joy and gratitude.”
With her winnings, she looks forward to helping her children and grandchildren. “I’d also love to travel to Jamaica and Mexico with my family,” she concluded.
