Markham Waxers to host inaugural U18 BB/A OHF Championships
The Markham Waxers U18 BB1 team has successfully secured the bid to host the inaugural U18 BB/A Championship presented by the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF). The non-body checking (BB/A) categorization is the fastest-growing division in minor hockey across Ontario.
The 2025–26 season marks a milestone year for the Markham Waxers Hockey Club, who are celebrating 60 years of providing minor hockey programs in Markham.
The OHF Championships bring together championship representatives from across the province — including teams from the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA), the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) and the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario (ALLIANCE) — alongside the host team for a three-day tournament showcasing elite competition and community pride.
For players, the championship offers the opportunity to compete at the highest level against top-tier opponents and vie for the title of OHF Champion.
The roster is made up of dedicated players in their final year of minor hockey. Together with their families and team staff, they proudly represent the Markham community both on and off the ice.
“We have a proven track record of on-ice success while also giving back to the community,” said Ryan Lawrie, the Markham team’s head coach.
After finishing first in league play during the regular season, the team is now in the midst of its playoff run. Along the way this season, they have captured three tournament championships, with hopes of even bigger titles still ahead.
“Our team embodies what it means to build a winning culture, combining consistency, long-term development with sustained high-level performance and sportsmanship,” added Richard Wong, the Markham Waxers’ team manager.
Come out to catch some great hockey action and show your support for the team in their pursuit of the OHF Championship from April 17 to 19 at the Angus Glen Community Centre.
