Main Street Markham Farmers’ Market hosts more vendors
By David Yin
The Main Street Markham Farmers’ Market will feature 30 per cent more vendors throughout its 2025 season compared to 2024, according to Brian Roswell, market manager for the event.
“Last year, we had averaging between 25 and 30 vendors,” Roswell said. “This year, we’re basically showing 40 or 40-plus [vendors] for almost every week now.”
Main Street Markham is planning to reopen its farmers’ market on May 10, during the Mother’s Day weekend. It will run every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Guardian Pharmacy parking lot on 102 Main St. North until Oct. 11, during the Thanksgiving weekend.
Roswell is looking forward to the new vendors in the upcoming season.
“We have new farmers coming,” wrote Roswell, in an email to the Review. “Forsythe, for at least 20 years, a new fruit farmer from Niagara on the Lake, a leafy vegetable farmer from Balderson.
”Returning are our micro greens vendor. A hydroponic lettuce farmer as well. Local raw honey, infused oils, clothing.”
In addition, Roswell hinted at several new and returning food vendors, along with artisan craftspeople and music entertainment.
Roswell has overseen the market for over a decade since opening It’s the Cat’s Meow Cafe in 2010. He has also been a member of the Markham Village Business Improvement Area for over five years.
“Part of the reason behind moving to Main Street and establishing my business here was the events,” Roswell said. “You know, we had–as I guess I mentioned–30-some odd events [in 2010].”
Roswell hopes that by running the farmers’ market, more people will be attracted to Main Street Markham.
“That’s the whole premise behind having the farmers’ market,” Roswell said. “To bring people to the street.”
