Local food banks receive much-needed support

Markham Ward 8 Councillor Isa Lee, a dedicated advocate for local causes, recently delivered a $10,000 cheque to the Markham Food Bank and another one for the same amount to 105 Gibson Food Bank, as well as food donations totalling nearly 1,000 lbs. collected from a Mon Sheong Court food drive.

This generous contribution stems from the proceeds gathered through Lee’s monthly food drives, an initiative in which she collaborated with a different organization each month.

The monthly food drives spearheaded by Lee bring together various organizations and the community at large to address the critical issue of food insecurity. By partnering with different groups, ranging from local businesses to non-profit organizations, Lee aims to foster a sense of collective responsibility towards tackling hunger.

Lee is grateful for the community’s unwavering support throughout the monthly food drives.

She emphasized the importance of collaboration and shared responsibility in addressing local challenges, stating that it is through such collective efforts that meaningful change can be realized.

She looks forward to continuing this initiative in 2024, and welcomes any organizations interested in participating in these monthly food drives to contact her at [email protected]
