Local companies among province’s Best Workplaces

A local distribution company, a financial services and insurance company, and an IT company are among the 2023 Best Workplaces in Ontario.

Great Place to Work® also released Best Workplaces in B.C., Alberta and Quebec. Each list recognizes organizations that offer the most positive employee experience in their region.

Grainger Canada, a business-to-business distributor of maintenance, repair and operations supplies, was founded in 1889 and provides a wide range of products and services that make it easy for customers to keep their operations running and their people safe.

Among other things, it was recognized for offering every team member an incentive program that provides the opportunity to influence not only their individual performance but make an impact on Grainger’s overall success. Grainger also offers market competitive pay rates to help it attract, motivate and retain talent.

PACE Technical, an IT solutions provider, is dedicated to empowering businesses through cutting-edge technology designed to give them a competitive edge. Its managed IT services encompass proactive IT strategy, business continuity, cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity.

As part of its culture of appreciation, PACE celebrates wins with the CrewHu platform, which allows employees to earn points through peer and client recognition that can be redeemed for rewards that range from gift cards to extra time off. The PACE Performance Incentive Program rewards commitment and hard work, fostering a thriving and proactive company culture.

Oppono Lending Company, a non-traditional mortgage lender, offers what it calls ‘common sense’ financing solutions, including first and second mortgages, bridge financing and HELOCs tailored to the specific needs of brokers and their clients.

All Oppono employees are entitled to take their birthday or a day in lieu of their birthday off work to celebrate with friends and family. The company keeps track of each employee’s favourite birthday cake and has it delivered to the office or their home. Oppono offers a flexible hybrid work culture to encourage work/life balance.

“The practices that make Alberta organizations great are those that are replicated in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia and indeed in the smaller regions across our vast country,” Great Places to Work says about the lists. “And what comes to mind is the time and attention these organizations give their people and their culture so that they can deliver the best practices – ones that are rooted in strong values and an unwavering commitment to fair and equal treatment.

“Because at the core of a great workplace is respect for people.” To be eligible, organizations must be Great Place to Work certified in the past year. Eligibility is based on the province in which an organization is headquartered. It determined the best based on the average Trust Index score of eligible organizations.
