Displaying sunflowers has become one of the many ways the world is showing solidarity for the people of Ukraine and now the Markham Group of Artists (MGA) invites you to show your support through The Sunflower Project.
The virtual fundraising art show and sale will benefit those suffering from the war through the Canada-Ukraine Foundation (CUF) Humanitarian Appeal.
The art show is taking place on the MGA website and will run until June 30. View the art show at markhamartists.org and click on each painting to learn more about it and how to contact the artist to purchase.
MGA is donating all show entry fees paid by the artists to the CUF Humanitarian Appeal. In addition, participating artists are donating all or a portion of their sales to benefit Ukrainian refugees. MGA is not accepting commission on any artwork sold.
The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine, which is one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of sunflower seeds and sunflower oil. Sunflowers became the symbol of Ukrainian resistance to Russia after the news outlet Ukraine World shared a video on Twitter showing a Ukrainian woman giving sunflower seeds to Russian soldiers, with directions to place the seeds in their pockets so the flowers will grow where they die.
