Hakka Canadian Association celebrates unity

Hakka Canadian Association came together with the community to welcome the Lunar 2023 on January 28 at Zunyan Fine Dinning & Banquet.

The Chinese New Year Dinner Gala event signified the unity of community members to celebrate the start of the new lunar year.

This event, attended by 500 people, reflected a joyous and festive community gathering of the remarkable multicultural diaspora of the community.

The banquet hall was decorated in colourful red and the gala began with two traditional Chinese lion dances with glowing lights.

Emcees Lewis and Santha kept the attendees engaged in a host of diverse activities that embodied the spirit of goodwill and generosity such as singing in various languages by local artists, red packets distributed by special guests, a magic show, and numerous door prizes.

There was a wide array of dancing such as ballroom, salsa, Zumba, and Latin line dancing to name a few.

Dignitaries that attended, included MPP Raymond Cho along with City of Markham’s CAO Andy Taylor, Commission Arvin Prasad, Deputy Mayor Michael Chan, Regional Councillor Joe Li, Regional Councillor Alan Ho, Regional Councillor Jim Jones, and Councillors Ritch Lau, Amanda Collucci, and Councillor Isa Lee.

Hakka Canadian Association wishes everyone a happy Lunar New Year.
