Fundraiser supports people with intellectual challenges

To raise awareness and support organizations for people with intellectual disabilities, Markham Regional Councillor Alan Ho organized a Charity Roadshow Fundraiser on April 28 at the King Square Shopping Centre in Markham.

During the press conference, Ho expressed his hope to provide continuous attention and support to organizations serving people with intellectual disabilities through this event.

As such, the event specifically raised funds to support five community organizations serving people with disabilities: Cherished Integrated Services, Chinese Autism Awareness Center (C.A.A.C.), ME and Lau Family Foundation, Gifted People Services (G.P.S.), and Reena Foundation, each received $3000.

Several co-organizing units and their representatives, including the Markham Confederation of Seniors Association, Active Community Engagement (A.C.E.), and the Buttonville Resident Association, strongly supported the event. King Square provided the Venue, and Green City Communities Inc. was the title sponsor.

Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti also attended the event to show his support, praising Ho for his years of dedication to helping the community and thanking the sponsors, charity performers, and volunteers for their contributions to the charity cause.

During the charity performance show, local charity singers and groups donated to the good cause and performed brilliantly for the audience, adding more highlights and warmth to the event.

“This event could not have been achieved without the support and attention of all participants,” Ho said. He looks forward to “continuing to help and support organizations for people with disabilities in the future and continue to promote social understanding and inclusivity, advocating for more support and attention for people with intellectual disabilities.”
