The sixth Annual Walmart Canada Fight Hunger Spark Change (FHSC) campaign runs until March 17th.
Both Walmart Canada (WC) and the Food Bank of York Region (FBYR) are encouraging shoppers to donate in-store and online throughout the campaign to help keep the communities of York Region fed.
“The Fight Hunger Spark Change annual event has helped us purchase large amounts of healthy bulk produce for our network of community food pantries, social service agencies and housing cooperatives all across York Region,” explains Alex Bilotta, Founder and CEO of the Food Bank of York Region. “We are forever grateful to Walmart Canada and all the shoppers who donate to the campaign.”
Shoppers can support the campaign in four different ways: purchasing participating food products; rounding up their in-store purchases; adding a donation to their online orders; and by donating non-perishable goods in-store.
This year, many of the participating Walmart Canada locations in York Region will also be hosting mini-events and giveaways in-store to help increase donations for the campaign.
The Food Bank of York Region is the regional food hub and mobile food pantry with a network of 75+ social service agencies and emergency home delivery programs. The network supports food programs in the nine municipalities of York Region, serving 24,000+ individuals in 7,000 households. The COVID-19 pandemic increased the number of people accessing food bank programs in York Region by 42 per cent from 2018, expanding the threshold of food insecurity to a larger scale of members in our community.
