Candidate registration closes soon
The deadline to register to run in October’s municipal election is quickly approaching.
Nominations to become a City Council or school board trustee candidate will be accepted until Friday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m.
“Running for office is a powerful way to serve your community and ensure that our local government remains accessible, engaging and accountable,” the City of Markham says. “When diverse perspectives and lived experiences are at the table, we all win.”
Elected positions on Markham City Council and local school boards are paid roles that recognize the time commitment required for governance, committee work and constituent service. Learn more about the available positions, eligibility requirements and how to register at ElectionsMarkham.ca.
As of August 12, one candidate is running for mayor, six candidates are running for four regional councillor positions, 23 candidates are running for eight ward councillor positions and 10 candidates are running for seven school board trustee positions. Learn more about current candidates.
