YONEX Canada Open returns to Markham
Top badminton players from around the world will descend upon the Markham Pan Am Centre when the YONEX Canada Open returns this summer.
From June 30 to July 5, they will play at one of the highest levels of competition in the Pan Am region and battle to win part of the $250,000 USD in prize money.
“The YONEX Canada Open is Badminton Canada’s premier event. The level of competition and play for international players will inspire and entertain fans of all ages,” says Badminton Canada Executive Director Bryan Merrett.
Canada will be well-represented at the event, with some familiar faces taking the court, including Canada’ first-ever World Championship medalist Victor Lai. Michelle Li, a four-time Canada Open champion and four-time Olympian in Women’s Singles, and Brian Yang, a two-time Olympian in Men’s Singles, headline the competition.
The Markham Pan Am Centre previously hosted events during the Pan Am Games. “The Canada Open is back and Markham is excited to host this premier event at the Pan Am Centre, the heart of Canadian badminton,” says Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “Thanks to Badminton Canada for our successful ongoing partnership to advance elite badminton training and international competition.”
As tickets go on sale, fans can use special Senior National Team and Next Generation Team codes to receive 15 per cent off. A donation will be made to support their favourite athletes. For a list of codes, visit Badminton Canada at badminton.ca.
