Cathay Ball to help build more long-term care centres

Mon Sheong Foundation’s Cathay Ball 2026 drew more than 600 guests and raised money to support its Because We Care Capital Campaign to help build more long-term care centres and expand access to high-quality senior care across the community.

“For more than six decades, thanks to supporters from all walks of life, Mon Sheong Foundation can continue its expedition to serve the community through changing tides and achieve one milestone after another,” Chairman of Mon Sheong Foundation Chairman Tim Kwan said.

“Last year, we became Ontario’s largest non-profit long-term care operator with over 1,000 beds. Our journey to expanding services remains full steam ahead. Our 320-bed Markham Long-Term Care Centre is expected to be completed this year,” he said. “Our second facility in Richmond Hill is scheduled for completion by the end of next year, adding another 288 care beds to serve our community. Together, the 608 new beds from these two homes will provide much needed relief to the waitlist pressure.”

The annual charity gala was held Saturday, Oct. 31 at the Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference Centre & Spa. Its theme was ‘Anchored in Care, Charting Tomorrow.’ “This year’s maritime theme reminds us that serving the community is much like embarking on a voyage across the boundless ocean,” said Cathay Ball 2026 Co-Chairs Raymond Lam and Joseph Tsang. “Such a meaningful journey would not be possible without the unwavering support of donors and partners who help us navigate rough waters and weather every storm.”

Entertainment was provided by Funkyverse, a Golden Buzzer-winning Canadian funk dance powerhouse in Canada’s Got Talent 2025, along with live music and vocals by Toronto’s renowned Michael Vieira Band. The event also featured a silent auction and a raffle.

“Mon Sheong Foundation plays an important role in helping seniors stay connected, supported and engaged in their communities,” said Rachael Wong, Associate Vice President, TD Bank Group. “TD is honoured to be the Presenting Sponsor of Cathay Ball 2026 and to support Mon Sheong Foundation’s ongoing efforts to enhance the well-being of seniors and their families.”

The Foundation also recognizes MediSystem Pharmacy (Diamond Sponsor), Concord Adex (Platinum Sponsor), and corporate and community partners, as well as the Cathay Ball 2026 Task Force, staff team and more than 70 volunteers.
