Watch for Voter Information Letters
Voter Information Letters for the upcoming municipal election are in the mail and are being delivered by Canada Post to registered Markham voters.
The letters include the address to the City’s online voting website, a personal identification number (PIN) to vote online and other important information about the election. If you’re an eligible voter and don’t receive your letter by October 16, you might not be registered at your current address or at all.
Eligible voters can check and update their registration information using Elections Markham’s online Register to Vote service, at the Markham Civic Centre’s Legislative Service counter or at any voting place during in-person voting days from October 23 to 26.
Voters registering in person should take identification to show election officials. You can vote in Markham’s municipal election if you’re at least 18 years old by October 26, 2026; a Canadian citizen; a Markham resident, landowner or tenant (or the spouse of one); and are registered to vote. A voter can only vote once in Markham’s municipal election, regardless of many properties they own or rent in the city.
Markham voters can vote online for the offices of Mayor, Regional Councillor, Ward Councillor and School Board Trustee from October 16 at 10 a.m. to October 26 at 8 p.m. Alternatively, voters can cast their ballot in person at any designated voting place from October 23 to 26, or at Elections Markham Headquarters until October 22.
“City government and school boards deliver important services that residents and businesses rely on every day,” says Markham City Clerk Kimberley Kitteringham. “Voting in Markham’s upcoming municipal election is a powerful way to support democracy and ensure that our local government remains accessible, engaging and accountable.”
If you receive a Voter Information Letter for someone who doesn’t live at your address, mark the envelope ‘Return to Sender’ and mail it back to Elections Markham. If a voter loses their Voter Information Letter, contact Elections Markham to request a new online Voting PIN and the old one will be deactivated.
Voters are reminded to only open a Voter Information Letter that’s addressed to them. It’s illegal to take or open mail addressed to another person. Voters should never share their online Voting PIN. It belongs to them and no one should ever ask them for it.
