The Centre for Dreams marks 35 years with anniversary dinner fundraiser

The Centre for Dreams is celebrating 35 years of supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with a special anniversary dinner aimed at helping the Markham-based charity expand its programs and reach more people in need.

The Denim and Diamonds 35th Anniversary Celebration Dinner will take place Oct. 23 from 6 to 11 p.m. at Crystal Fountain Event Venue. Proceeds will support the organization’s relocation to a larger facility, which will allow it to expand programs, reduce waitlists and serve more members of the community.

The evening will include impactful speeches, a performance from Centre for Dream members, buffet dinner, line dancing, and other activities.

“Our 35th anniversary celebration is an opportunity to honour the remarkable people and community that have shaped The Centre for Dreams since 1991,” CEO Michelle Del Carmen says. “For 35 years, we have witnessed our members build skills, form lasting friendships, discover new possibilities and inspire everyone around them. We are incredibly proud of our history and excited to continue building a future where people with developmental disabilities are included, valued and empowered to achieve their dreams.”

Since 1991, The Centre for Dreams has educated, engaged and empowered individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through programs focused on life skills, employment skills, social development and healthy living.

Demand for The Centre for Dreams’ programs has continued to grow, with waitlists increasing by 52 per cent over the past year. The charity’s current space limits its ability to accommodate everyone seeking support, making the move to a larger facility an important step toward serving more individuals and expanding its programs.
