Markham artist wins The Rewilding Arts Prize

The David Suzuki Foundation, in partnership with Rewilding Magazine, selected the 2026 winners of the Rewilding Arts Prize.

The Rewilding Arts Prize celebrates artists in Canada who display a connection between nature, community, and culture.

Applications opened in late 2025 for artists across Canada. A jury of eight past winners of the prize reviewed over 600 submissions. In March, 20 submissions were selected as finalists.

The Jury settled on five submissions to receive the prize, which included a $2,000 prize and a feature story in Rewilding Magazine.

Xiaojing Yan, a Chinese-Canadian artist based in Markham, was one of the award’s selected winners.

Yan’s creation featured a living sculpture. It engages fungi, native plants, pearls, and other organic materials. The production expresses the negotiation between the non-human and human worlds.
